7 Things I Do to Get Deep and Restful Sleep

I’ll help you get the best sleep of your life, naturally

My name is Jeremy Sherk, Founder & CEO @NestedNaturals.

One reason I founded Nested Naturals is to help you get the best sleep of your life, naturally.

Why is that important? Quality sleep paves the way for living a healthier, happier life -- something everyone desires and deserves -- and that includes YOU!

As a light sleeper, I struggled with getting a good night’s sleep as all kinds of distractions kept me wide awake when I should be fast asleep. But over time especially as I became more self aware, I picked up a couple of sleep hacks that helped improve my sleep quality, dramatically.

The following are 7 things I do to get deep and restful sleep naturally each night...and I know they will help you too if you follow through.

Ready? Great! let’s dive right in:

#1: Listen to White Noise

Huh? Yeah, ‘noise’ and ‘quality sleep’ sounds like “word and opposite,” but trust me, white noise is a game-changer.

If you’re a light sleeper like me who wakes up at the slightest distraction [say, each time your significant other takes a washroom break,] white noise [because of its steady sound frequency] can help take out the irregular, distracting noise once your body, brain and ears get used to it.

What to do? Like me you can download white noise on your iPhone and let it play on repeat -- all night long. Alternatively, you could order for a white noise machine or alarm clock with white noise functionality.

#2: Get an Amber Headlamp

You can get an amber headlamp on Amazon like I did some years back. I got this super effective sleep tip from a book titled, The Primal Connection by Mark Sisson.

Thing is I take this headlamp everywhere I go and put it on when I need to get into Zzz mode. The headlamp illuminates red light instead of the sleep-stealing blue lights [from your gadgets] that prevent you from falling asleep.

What to do? Like me you can put on this headlamp 30 minutes before bedtime, and anytime you get up in the middle of the night for a washroom break or something.

#3: Fix Blackout Curtains

Blackout curtains help block out any lights coming in from the window...whether that is sunlight, street light, traffic light, light from car headlamps, etcetera.

The goal is to have complete darkness in your bedroom when you’re ready to retire into restful slumber. Surely you don't want any stray lights signaling your wake hormones when you’re still in sleep mode.

#4: Wear a Sleep Mask

So, sometimes, even after blackout curtains help keep outside lights out, lights from your phones, alarm clocks, and other gadgets in the room could be interfering with your sleep.

What to do? Wear a sleep mask to help mask-out unwanted lights in the bedroom so that nothing stands in the way of you getting a good night’s sleep.

Sleep masks are easy to slip into your travel bag when you’re off on a business trip or a vacation. Never travel without those!

#5: Get Custom Ear Plugs

Custom ear plugs [not referring to the conventional ones you can pick up at the drugstore] is super effective for blocking out sounds that wake you up in the middle of the night.

You can get these custom ear plugs from any hearing clinic [or you can do a mail order]. These custom silicone earplugs -- made from moulds that fit perfectly into your ear -- works really well in helping you stay asleep.

They are must-haves for when you’re on a plane or in hotels and they even work better if you play white noise in the background as well.

#6: Have a Fan

Yeah, a fan is perfect during summer to help circulate the air around the house.

This helps keep the air cool, fresh and flowing...and trust me, this does help you get a better sleep at night.

Have a fan handy when you don’t have access to air conditioning, and you can even combine a fan with air conditioning if you have both.

#7: Get a Body Pillow

If you’re a side sleeper like me, a body pillow is very helpful for maintaining proper alignment.

If you’re having back, hip, neck or shoulder issues...a body pillow can help you find pressure relief by offering that extra support that helps your body maintain a comfortable and proper sleep alignment.

I highly recommend you get one for proper alignment and better sleep.

OK so, I’m going to wrap this all up with something from Arianna Huffington [founder of the Huffington Post]…

She said, “In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Dumbledore asks Snape not to wake Harry: "Let him sleep. For in dreams, we enter a world that is entirely our own. Let him swim in the deepest ocean or glide over the highest cloud.”

I also ask that nothing keeps you up or wakes you which is why I want you to have the best sleep of your life, naturally!
